Chapter 6 - The Paper Wasn’t a Shipment Schedule

I finally read it properly while Mia slept.

The codes I thought were shipments were not.

At least not all of them.

Some dates were years old.

One address belonged to a warehouse demolished four years earlier.

Another belonged to a restaurant Luca’s father once owned.

Then I saw a date I recognized.

The night Luca’s father died.

Beside it:

C-17 / Route changed 22:10

Below:

V confirmed

Then the hawk.

I photographed the page.

Not with my phone.

With an old camera kept in the staff room for inventory damage.

I placed the original back inside the duck.

Then I took the photograph to someone who had worked for the family longer than Julian.

Teresa looked at it.

All color left her face.

“Where did you get this?”

“Mia found it.”

“You need to burn it.”

“Why?”

“Because nobody who keeps records like that expects them to become evidence.”

“Evidence of what?”

She looked toward the door.
