Chapter 6 - The Blue Glove Under Her Nail

The blue fragment beneath Melissa’s fingernail matched gloves used at Wade’s surgical center.
That established she had been there.
It did not establish why she scratched someone.
Then a technician recovered security video Wade believed had been overwritten.
No audio.
But enough.
2:49 a.m.
Brent carried Melissa through the rear entrance.
She was conscious.
Barely.
Wade met them.
3:02.
Melissa tried to stand from a wheelchair.
Brent pushed her back down.
3:11.
Wade spoke with Brent in a hallway.
Animated.
Angry.
Brent pointed repeatedly toward Melissa’s phone.
3:24.
Wade moved Melissa toward the procedure suite.
4:37.
Brent exited carrying a black medical bag.
5:04.
Wade came out.
Sat against the wall.
Hands over his face.
Then the camera showed something I did not expect.
Wade punched Brent.
Once.
Hard enough to knock him backward.
That mattered.
The brothers had not experienced the night as partners executing one smooth plan.
Something went wrong between them.
Investigators eventually found blood residue inside the missing specimen container’s cap.
Melissa’s DNA.
But no specimen.
Where had it gone?
The answer came from the center’s medical-waste contractor.
One emergency pickup had been requested Sunday morning.
By Brent.
Not Wade.
A waste bag was already destroyed by the time anyone knew to preserve it.
Brent had removed medical material from Wade’s center after Melissa died.

Why?
That became the central question.
