There was another woman.

Her name was Nicole Grant.

Commercial lender associate.
She had helped assemble the Mercer Outpatient financing package.
She and Brent had been sleeping together for seven months.
Melissa had discovered that too.
Any other year, adultery might have been the central betrayal.
Now it felt almost small.
Nicole insisted Brent told her Melissa approved using the apartment building.
Messages supported that—at first.
Later, Nicole became suspicious.

She signed. Tech issue.

No.
That was when Melissa received the verification request and discovered the proposed lien.
Nicole eventually cooperated with investigators and her employer.
She lost her position because of undisclosed conflicts tied to Brent, though evidence did not establish she created Melissa’s false signature herself.
