Chapter 7 - THANKSGIVING WASN’T AN INSULT—IT WAS PREPARATIONI went back through old texts.

November.

October.

September.

Suddenly Bella’s behavior looked different.

At Thanksgiving, she mocked me for overstaying.

Two weeks earlier, she had asked whether I planned to “stay through spring.”

In October, she photographed the basement during a visit.

She said Mom wanted decorating ideas.

In September, she asked what day my monthly transfer usually cleared.

I thought she was being nosy.

She was collecting data.

Then I found one text I had forgotten.

BELLA: If Mom refinances later, would you be okay confirming you contribute monthly?

I had replied:

Sure. I pay rent and utilities. Why?

Her answer:

Just planning.

That innocent little response now made my stomach turn.

She had taken my casual confirmation and inflated it into a fictional lease.

I sent every message to Nina.

One by one, the timeline became less emotional and more prosecutable.
