Mark frowned, wiping his face. "What cloud?"

"The baby monitor in the hallway," Sarah said, her words spilling out fast. "Linda manually reset the hub yesterday. But she doesn't know how tech works, Mark. She reset the physical device. The hub automatically uploads audio and motion logs to your Google Drive account every hour. She can't delete the server-side backups without your password."

Mark pulled his phone from his pocket. His hands were shaking so badly he dropped it twice before he managed to unlock the screen.

He opened the Drive app. He navigated to the hidden system folder labeled Nursery_Cam_Backups.

The files were still there.

"Search by date," Sarah said, leaning over his shoulder. "Four days ago. 9:15 AM."

Mark found the audio file. It was a black screen, just an MP4 audio track recorded by the hallway hub. He pressed play.

First, they heard the sound of a baby crying—Lily, fussy and tired.

Then, Linda’s voice, speaking to someone on her cell phone. "I told you to delay the audit. Just give me two days. I have the hardware wallet in my purse right now. I just need to move the funds."

There was a heavy thump, like a purse dropping on the bathroom tile.

"Dammit," Linda muttered on the recording. A sharp metallic clatter. The sound of something rolling across the floor and dropping into water.

"Just flush, damn it, go down!" Linda screamed over the sound of the rushing water.

She wasn't trying to pull Lily out. She was holding the lid down, repeatedly hitting the flush handle, trying to force the titanium capsule through the pipes, completely ignoring the newborn drowning beneath the plastic lid.
