Chapter 19 - APEX LOGISTICS

```
Mark looked exhausted. He sat in his pickup truck in the parking lot of the grocery store, staring straight through the windshield as Sarah sat in the passenger seat.
"Sarah, please," Mark whispered, rubbing his temples. "My mother is paying for your psychiatric retainer. She’s trying to help you. Coming here, violating the separation order... if the caseworker finds out, you’ll never get custody back."
"She’s not your mother, Mark. She’s your stepmother," Sarah said softly. "And she didn't try to drown Lily. She dropped something in the toilet and was trying to flush it."
She handed him the plumbing receipt.
Mark barely glanced at it. "A plumber? Sarah, you’re spiraling. The toilet was clogged because you..." He couldn't finish the sentence.
"Because I what? Forced my newborn into it?" Sarah’s voice cracked, but she forced the tears down. "Look at the business accounts, Mark. You said the contracting firm is bleeding cash. Linda manages your vendor payments. Have you actually audited them?"
Mark stiffened. His hands tightened on the steering wheel. "Dave and I are handling the finances. Leave Linda out of this."
"Who is Apex Logistics?" Sarah asked.
Mark turned to look at her, genuinely confused. "I don't know. A supplier, maybe? Why?"
"Because," Sarah said, pointing to a printed screenshot she had pulled from their joint mail before leaving the house, "Linda authorized a forty-thousand-dollar wire transfer to them two days before the incident."
Mark stared at the paper. The color slowly drained from his face.
