He was preparing to blame her.
She retained separate counsel.
Their romance collapsed within weeks.
Not because karma struck on schedule.

Vanessa eventually produced messages relevant to both the assault planning and Lakeview transactions.
Not out of conscience alone.
Self-preservation.
