The $600,000 loan did not close.
Hale Residential did not disappear Friday afternoon.
Businesses rarely die on schedule.
Grant negotiated with suppliers.
Sold equipment.
Closed one division.
Laid off five employees.
That part hurt.
They had families.
None of them caused what happened in my kitchen.
I briefly wondered whether I should have signed to protect their jobs.
Rebecca stopped me.
“Sarah, a business requiring your unwilling personal guarantee is already telling you something.”
The company eventually entered a structured workout with creditors.
Grant’s brother invested limited new capital after demanding operational controls.
Brooke was removed from finance responsibilities.
The company survived.
Smaller.
Grant had spent months telling everyone my refusal would destroy everything.
