Chapter 11 - Brooke Finally Understood She Was Disposable Too

Brooke eventually cooperated more fully.

Not because she became brave overnight.

Because Grant blamed her.

His statement shifted.

Brooke was unstable.

Brooke arrived unexpectedly.

Brooke brought the ladle.

Brooke attacked me before Grant could react.

Brooke had become obsessed with him.

The same man who told her they were building a future now needed her to carry the entire crime.

She recognized the pattern.

“I thought he loved me.”

I did not answer.

That sentence belonged to her, not me.

Through counsel, she admitted Grant asked her to confront me.

He told her I had mocked her.

Called her desperate.

Said I planned to report her to the company’s lender and accuse her of financial misconduct.

Some of that was fabricated.

She agreed to frighten me.

She claimed the first strike was never supposed to land.

Then anger took over.

That did not excuse her.

It did explain why the attack escalated beyond even Grant’s intended manipulation.

She said:

“He told me if you hit me, everything gets easier.”

There it was in plain language.

The plan had needed my reaction.

Instead, my refusal to fight back became the thing that exposed them.
