Chapter 8 - THE FOOTAGE THEY DIDN’T DELETE

The preservation order came quickly.
Once Iron Forge's insurer learned potential evidence might be destroyed, the gym's lawyers became considerably less casual than Ray.
A forensic technician imaged the training server.
Dustin had deleted files.
So had Ray.
Deletion is not always disappearance.
Investigators recovered portions.
The first important clip was from seven months earlier.
Emily and Dustin sparring.
It began earlier than the version Dustin had threatened to release.
Dustin repeatedly increased intensity after Emily asked him to stop.
She removed her gloves.
He continued.
She pushed him away.
He followed.
Eventually she grabbed a lamp from a table outside the mat and threw it toward the wall—not at him—while yelling for him to leave her alone.
Dustin's edited clip began approximately three seconds later.
The second recovered file involved Kayla.
Same pattern.
Not identical.
But recognizable.
The third was newer.
Three weeks before Emily's hospitalization.
Dustin cornered her beside the cage after closing.
No clear physical assault appeared because another fighter entered.
But the audio was useful.
Emily:
“Don't touch me.”
Dustin:
“You don't get to embarrass me and then decide when we're done talking.”
Ray walked through the background.
He looked directly at them.
Then kept walking.
When investigators showed him the footage, his story changed.
He had known the relationship was “volatile.”
He had not known Emily was in danger.
Then why delete files?
Ray said he was protecting gym members' privacy once lawyers became involved.
That explanation created a problem.
The deletion occurred before Rebecca's preservation demand.
Specifically, eleven hours after Emily entered the hospital.
Someone had warned him.
Phone records answered who.
Dustin.
But another call appeared immediately afterward.
Ray contacted a local sports physician named Dr. Grant Keller.
That seemed strange until Emily remembered the name.
Keller had treated her shoulder after an “accidental sparring injury” six months earlier.

And he had never asked whether Dustin caused it intentionally.
Part 9 would show that the gym had been handling Dustin's behavior for longer than Emily knew.
