Chapter 9 - The Poison Was Never Meant to End With AtlasOnce the storage card was recovered, federal investigators became directly involved.

Not because Adrian made one phone call and summoned an army.
Because the evidence potentially connected an eight-year-old suspicious death, financial crimes, intimidation, and current poisoning threats.
Agents interviewed me.
Noah.
Dr. Hayes.
Security staff.
Adrian.
Graham did not come voluntarily.
His attorney did.
Through counsel, Graham denied poisoning Atlas or Murphy.
Denied killing Elena.
Denied shooting Martin.
Admitted being at the warehouse.
Admitted the conversation on the recovered audio “may have occurred.”
His explanation?
Elena had become paranoid.
Atlas became violent.
Martin tried restraining the dog.
The explosion happened accidentally.
Graham survived and spent eight years living with survivor’s guilt.
It was almost persuasive.
Until agents traced the poisoned meat.
The butcher paper beside Murphy came from an old Pike Family Meats packaging stock no longer used commercially.
Where was obsolete stock stored?
A warehouse Graham personally owned outside Towson.
Search warrant.
Inside, investigators found rolls of the same paper.
Again, not conclusive alone.
More important was surveillance showing a contractor associated with Graham’s private security consulting company near Noah’s street the night Murphy died.
The contractor cooperated after being confronted.
He admitted delivering meat.
He claimed Graham told him:
“Scare the maid. Don’t touch the kid.”
That sentence made me physically ill.
Murphy had died so I would understand Graham could reach my brother.
Then investigators found a separate instruction.
Atlas first. Bennett if necessary. Adrian after signing.
I stared at the line.
“After signing what?”
Adrian knew.
A sale.
DeLuca Maritime was negotiating the sale of a dormant waterfront property worth almost $60 million.
Part of the land included the former Pike Cold Storage site.
Before closing, environmental and title due diligence would reopen warehouse records, old insurance claims, and legacy vendor files.
Exactly the material Graham could not survive being reexamined.
The sale was scheduled in eleven days.
If Adrian died before signing, company voting arrangements would temporarily freeze the transaction and place control in a trust structure where Graham still had influence through old advisory provisions.
Not ownership.
Time.
Enough time to destroy records and move money.
Atlas was obstacle one.
I was obstacle two.
Adrian was the actual target.
The poison had never been the final act.
It was preparation.
Remove the dog.
May you like
Frighten the maid.
Then make Adrian’s death look like the dangerous life everyone already assumed he lived.
