Judith insisted the stair fall was accidental.
Her attorney challenged intent.
That was expected.
So the case did not depend only on:

Judith says.
There was physical evidence.
The broken casserole landed several feet beyond the point expected from a simple misstep, though nobody pretended physics alone proved a shove.
There were photographs of bruising.
The ER records documented my statement before family members could coordinate further.
Dr. Mercer documented Graham’s attempt to have me describe the event as a slip.
The old medical records showed repeated accident narratives.
The synchronized messages showed Graham coaching Judith after previous incidents.
And Judith herself had sent:
I DIDN’T MEAN IT.
Minutes after the fall.
Not:
She slipped.
Intent and exact criminal liability remained questions for the legal process.
I stopped demanding one spectacular piece of evidence solve everything.
The pattern mattered.
Graham’s older conduct was more complicated legally.
Older incidents.
Limited documentation.
My own earlier accident statements.
I did not expect criminal law to repair my marriage history.
Divorce court dealt with finances and property.
The protection-order process dealt with safety.
Police and prosecutors evaluated Judith’s conduct separately.
The disputed credit line went through the lender’s fraud-review process.
Different systems.
Different standards.
Messy.
Slow.
Real.
Meanwhile I returned to physical therapy.
My ribs healed.
My wrist improved.
The harder recovery involved ordinary movement.
The first time Melissa’s dog bumped me from behind near a staircase, I froze so completely she had to lead me to the couch.
