Chapter 10 - NATHANIEL WAS THE REAL TARGET OF WAREHOUSE SEVEN
The major twist had been sitting inside the ledger for ten years.
Nathaniel had always believed Julian discovered the trafficking operation and died because of it.
That was only half true.
Julian did uncover the containers.
But Sebastian’s real problem was Nathaniel.
Ten years earlier, Nathaniel had been preparing to take controlling authority over Whitmore Maritime after discovering unexplained transfers from family companies.
Sebastian knew that once Nathaniel obtained full access, the trafficking network would be exposed.
So he created a plan.
Julian was deliberately fed enough information to send him to Warehouse Seven.
Nathaniel was then anonymously alerted that his brother was in danger.
Both brothers would enter the same building.
The warehouse would burn.
One tragedy.
Two heirs gone.
Sebastian would inherit operational control.
But Nathaniel survived.
That explained the clues stretching all the way back to the beginning.
Why the official investigation collapsed so quickly.
Why witnesses disappeared.
Why Claire’s statement vanished.
Why Nathaniel’s reputation was destroyed immediately by rumors that he started the fire.
Why Sebastian publicly “saved” the Whitmore businesses afterward.
Why Pritchard stayed inside Nathaniel’s house for nineteen years.
And why the trafficking operation continued using Whitmore shipping seals while Nathaniel spent a decade believing criminals were merely exploiting his name.
Sebastian had not stolen Nathaniel’s name.
He had weaponized it.
Julian’s ledger contained one final hidden section Claire had not decoded because the symbols were reversed.
When she finally recognized the mirrored pattern, she read the first line aloud.
S.W. ORDERS W7 CLEAN. N + J EXPECTED INSIDE.
Nathaniel’s face emptied of expression.
For ten years, he had blamed himself for failing to save his brother.
Now he knew they had both been sent there to die.
Sebastian looked toward him.
“Your brother was weak.”
Nathaniel’s voice came out almost too quietly to hear.
“He went inside because children were trapped.”
“He destroyed the family for strangers.”
Nathaniel’s grip on the cane tightened.
“No.”
He looked directly at Sebastian.
“He proved he was the only Whitmore who understood what family was.”
Then Nathaniel pressed one button on his phone.
Lights ignited across the pier.
Federal agents stepped from behind loading containers.
Port police vehicles blocked both exits.
Sebastian turned slowly.
The color left Pritchard’s face.
Eric backed away.
Claire remained exactly where she was.
Sebastian stared at Nathaniel.
“You brought law enforcement into family business?”
Nathaniel looked at the man who had raised him, framed him, scarred him, and killed his brother.
