Chapter 6 - The Executive Suite

At 1:00 PM, I walked into our penthouse. Adrian was pacing the living room in a fresh suit, checking his watch.
"You're late," he snapped. "Get dressed."
I didn't move toward the bedroom. I tossed Vanessa's notebook onto the glass coffee table. It landed with a heavy thud.
Adrian stared at it. "What is that?"
"That’s Vanessa’s real agenda," I said. "She’s not your partner, Adrian. She works for Apex Dynamics. The contract you promised her? Apex already drafted a better one. The moment you approve the tech transfer this afternoon, she's turning your offshore accounts over to the SEC. You won't be CEO. You'll be a federal inmate."
Adrian laughed, a harsh, dismissive sound, but his eyes darted to the notebook. "You're desperate, Claire. You're making things up because you're scared."
"Look at page fourteen," I said. "She recorded your IP addresses. She didn't forge my signature on her computer, Adrian. She logged into your home network and did it from your IP. She framed me using your digital footprint. When the feds trace the forgery, it points entirely to you."
The color drained from his face. He lunged for the notebook, flipping frantically to the middle pages. His eyes scanned the IP logs and the Apex contact numbers.
He dropped the book, stumbling back until he hit the edge of the sofa. "No," he whispered. "She loves me. We're building this together."
"She used you," I said coldly. "Just like you tried to use me."
Adrian looked up, his breathing shallow. The arrogance was entirely gone, replaced by naked terror. "Claire... if this is true, I'm ruined. You have to help me. You're a lawyer. You can fix this."
"I can," I said. "But you have to give me the encryption keys to the offshore accounts right now. You step down at the board meeting, surrender your shares, and confess to the affair. If you do that, I'll hand Vanessa's notebook to the FBI and keep you out of prison."
May you like
He stared at me, realizing he was entirely at my mercy. "And if I don't?"
"Then you walk into that boardroom," I said, "and I let her destroy you."
