Chapter 6 - TYLER’S PERSONAL PROBLEM

Tyler had borrowed heavily against future Ashford wealth.
Private investments.
A hospitality project in Miami.
Two failed tech companies.
A vineyard.
Lifestyle debt.
Not billionaire poverty.
But leverage.
His access to family capital depended partly on a trust his grandfather Arthur created.
That trust owned a large block of Ashford Biologics.
If old founder claims reduced or challenged the family trust’s ownership representations, the sale could be delayed.
Delay mattered to Tyler.
One loan agreement came due in ninety days.
His personal exposure exceeded $18 million.
That gave him motive to want Miriam’s claim eliminated quickly.
Still, humiliation at a party did not accomplish that.
Then Franco found a private security invoice.
Client:
Tyler Ashford.
Service:
Background vulnerability assessment — Hannah Evans.
Categories:
Employment dependence.
Medical family obligations.
Outstanding debt.
Social network.
Professional history.
I stared at the phrase.
“Background vulnerability assessment?”
Giovanni answered:
“It means somebody wanted to know where pressure works.”
Rachel looked at him.
“And you know this because?”
“I’ve paid for similar work.”
At least he didn't pretend.
My vulnerabilities were listed.
Mother critically ill.
No substantial savings.
Multiple service jobs.
Student debt.
Limited contact with father.
No spouse.
No children.
High educational credentials but underemployed.
One line:
LIKELY HIGH SHAME RESPONSE TO PUBLIC STATUS HUMILIATION.
I stopped reading.
Tyler had paid someone to predict how I would react when degraded in public.
Not physically attacked.
Humiliated.
He wanted me ashamed.
Financially desperate.
Then offered a way out.
The next line made it clearer.
RECOMMENDED NEGOTIATION WINDOW: WITHIN 24–48 HOURS OF DESTABILIZING EVENT.
This was not about a spoiled rich man losing control with a wineglass.
It was softening a target.
Except Tyler made a mistake.
May you like
Giovanni watched.
And Tyler did not know Giovanni had his own reasons to care about Ashford Biologics.
