Chapter 8 - THE MORNING OF TUESDAY

Tuesday began with rain.

Henry was in the family company’s boardroom at 8:45 a.m., wearing the same dark suit he used for investor meetings and funerals.

In many ways, the day was both.

Daniel sat at the head of the table, confident enough to pour coffee with steady hands. Paul Mercer stood along the wall near the legal binders, his expression disciplined, almost bored.

Neither knew that three judges had already signed warrants before dawn.

Neither knew that Lucas was safe in a secure child-services suite with Dr. Warner and Rosa.

Neither knew that the afternoon probate hearing had been quietly sealed for tactical reasons after Naomi’s emergency motion.

All they knew was what they believed:

Henry was exhausted.

Tuesday mattered.

And control was within reach.

The chairman asked for the proxy confirmation documents.

Daniel turned to Henry with sympathetic eyes he had practiced for a year.

“Are you ready?” he asked softly.

Henry looked at the paper in front of him but didn’t touch the pen.

Instead he said, “Before we start, I have a question. Why was my missing son’s contingent trust interest listed in a probate petition your lawyers filed yesterday?”

Every sound in the room stopped.

The chairman blinked. Two directors looked up sharply. Paul’s face lost color so subtly most people would’ve missed it.

Daniel recovered first.

“This is not the forum—”

Henry cut him off.

“It is exactly the forum. You asked me to renew your control over this company while you petitioned a court to treat my living son like a dead asset.”

That sentence broke the room open.

The chairman demanded an explanation.

Daniel tried anger.

He said Henry was unstable, misinformed, manipulated by grief.

Then Paul made his mistake.

He stepped toward the folder near Henry’s hand and said, “We can clarify the filing after the vote.”

The vote.

Not the truth.

The vote.

Henry stood.

“You just did clarify it.”

At that exact moment, Naomi entered through the side door with two investigators and three uniformed officers behind her.

The chairman half-rose from his seat.

Paul took one step backward.

Daniel didn’t move at all.

Naomi’s voice was precise and calm.

“Daniel, Paul—stand where you are. We have warrants for conspiracy to kidnap, unlawful imprisonment of a minor, witness intimidation, obstruction, fraud-related offenses, and attempted fiduciary deception.”

The directors stared in stunned silence as officers moved in.

Daniel looked only at Henry.

“Where is he?” he asked.

May you like

Henry answered with a coldness he didn’t know he possessed.

“Somewhere you’ll never touch again.”
