Chapter 7 - THE NINTH MAN WHO TRIED TO WALK AWAYNicholas Bellandi was the youngest brother.
Twenty-eight.
He lasted six days.
Then his lawyer called prosecutors.
Nicholas wanted to cooperate.
Victor called him a coward.
Anthony called him a traitor.
I called him useful.
His statement clarified the attack.
The brothers had been summoned by Victor for a “family vote.”
Clara thought she was coming to discuss the terminal sale.
Victor placed the transfer agreement in front of her.
She refused.
Anthony grabbed her phone.
Gabriel blocked the front door.
When Clara tried to leave, Victor told his sons:
“Stop her.”
Nicholas claimed he never struck her.
The forensic evidence later supported that he had at least been present and had helped restrain the room rather than stop the assault.
That did not make him innocent.
But cooperation mattered.
According to Nicholas, Victor kept shouting:
“You will not let a woman destroy what eight sons built.”
Clara answered:
“Mom built part of it too.”
That triggered him.
Not because of the company.
Because Teresa’s name still had power over him.
Nicholas also revealed something else.
Victor had repeatedly said the transfer needed to happen before Friday at noon.
“What was Friday?” Ruiz asked.
Nicholas looked nervous.
“The buyer’s deposit deadline.”
Nathan checked.
There was no ordinary buyer deadline Friday.
But North Meridian had a financing transaction scheduled.
That meant the transfer to the brothers wasn’t simply internal housekeeping.
Someone else was waiting for Clara’s shares.
