The legal proceedings took nearly a year.
Evidence was complicated.
Toxicology required experts.
Medication timing required caution.
Caleb's changing statements mattered.
So did Jenna's urgent-care test.
The custody petition.
The disabled phone.
The deleted messages.
The prescription history.
Sophie's forensic interview.
No single item carried everything.
Together, they formed a case strong enough that Caleb eventually entered a negotiated plea resolving serious criminal charges connected to nonconsensual medication, child endangerment, and conduct intended to manipulate the custody process.
He received a substantial custodial sentence followed by supervision.
Not life.
Not instant ruin.
A sentence tied to provable conduct.
Family court moved on its own track.
Jenna received sole legal and physical custody of Eli and Owen while Caleb's future contact remained subject to strict professional and court oversight.
No automatic promise that supervised visits would expand.
No declaration that biological parenthood erased danger.
Sophie was not part of that order because Caleb had never adopted her.
That became its own grief.
She had called him Dad.

“Did he stop being my stepdad?”
