I did not cancel the Northlake transaction out of revenge.
The independent board committee did something far less satisfying to Mark.
It reviewed it properly.
The valuation expert found that the forty-one-million-dollar offer might materially undervalue several warehouse properties that could be separated or repriced.
Northlake launched its own internal review after learning about Mark’s affair with Melissa Crane.
Melissa was removed from the deal team.
Heather’s consulting agreement was suspended.
Mark’s retention package went under independent scrutiny.
Then Northlake returned.
Higher price.
Stronger employee protections.
Cleaner conflict disclosures.
No special consulting deal for Heather.
No concealed arrangement with Melissa.
Mark’s personal incentive shrank substantially.
He hated the revised deal.
That was how I knew we were finally negotiating for Bennett Foods rather than Mark Bennett.
Meanwhile, Lily’s trust accounting moved through court-supervised and negotiated processes.
No judge magically handed me $623,000 on day one.
Transactions had to be traced.
Some were clearly improper.
Others had documents Diane claimed were approvals.
The independent fiduciary disputed several.
Eventually, substantial funds were restored with interest and surcharge.
The $275,000 company loan was formally documented and repaid.
The Mason education transfers were corrected through other family assets.
Mom’s renovation-related transactions became part of a broader settlement.
Heather’s notarization of my false proxy was referred for legal and professional review.
Mark’s corporate conduct triggered separate civil and governance consequences.
There were also questions investigators examined regarding whether the proxy crossed into criminal forgery territory.
Nobody went to prison because I was angry.
Nobody lost everything before breakfast.
